The Knot, Shinjuku

Where Matt and Laura are staying.

Starting Price Range:

$60 - 125 / night

Website:

About:

The Knot is a mid-sized hotel in Shinjuku just across a small city park. Though rooms are small, it's an affordable hotel with an event space, an art gallery, and 3 restaurants: an upscale steak house, a tapas joint, and a bakery that serves only vegan sandwiches every Sunday.

The hotel is a 10 minute walk from Shinjuku Station, and downtown Shinjuku, a district famous for the Golden Gai, where hundreds of micro-restaurants serve bar bites and cold drinks.

Starting Price Range:

$300 - $400 / night

Website:

About:

A modern, instagram-worthy hotel with thoughtfully curated art exhibits, upcycled furniture, and a design team that embraces wabi-sabi, the acceptance of imperfection.

"TRUNK (HOTEL) is the transmission point of a new style of social contribution called <Socializing> ... 'a live true to yourself, without undue pressure, but with a life-sized social purpose.'"

This hotel is a 20 minute train ride from The Knot, but it's too chic not to include.

IIdaya Samurai House

A free place to crash!

Starting Price Range:

Free!

Website:

About:

We'll be renting a historic samurai house for the wedding reception. This is an older building with 52 tatami matts and a garden.

We'll be renting the venue through the week in order to hold a ceremony, but you are most welcome to crash here for the week.

This house is a 9 minute walk from a train station 20 minutes outside Tokyo. It's a bit off the beaten path, but a fantastic crash pad for whoever wants a bit of adventure on a tighter budget.
